Types of Conversion

Having been building loft conversions since 2005 we have encountered every type of loft conversion that can be done.

Whether you have a Terrace House, Semi Detached property, Detached, Bungalow, Flat, we can convert it.

Velux Conversion

This is called this as Velux is a trade name for a roof window. However we always fit “Velux” windows as they are the best.

Velux conversions is the simplest way of converting you loft. Providing you have enough head height then this is the cheapest option. All the space is used within the roof void.

Dormer Conversion

When the head height is not able to provide you with enough useable space then using a dormer will help to provide the space.

There are various ways (shapes) to a dormer. Here is a quick summery of each one;

  • Flat roof Dormer – The dormer will have a flat roof
  • Pitch roof Dormer – The roof will have a pitch roof
  • Full width Dormer – When the dormer covers the whole width of the house. Normally on back of a terrace house.
  • Hip to Gable – When the side of the roof has a slope roof and it is changed to a gable (Vertical) end.
  • Hip to Gable with a rear Dormer – Same as above but with a rear dormer as well.
  • Hype end Dormer – A smaller dormer with a pitch roof extending the ridge line.
  • Feature Dormer – Smaller pitch of flat roof dormers generally positioned above and same width as windows below. Ideal in planning applications in a conservation area.
  • Lewes Dormer – Flat roof dormer that only comes half way down the roof.
  • Mansard Roof – The wall of the dormer is built at an angle not completely vertical.
  • Mono Pitch roof – Similar to a flat roof dormer but has a pitch roof round the top.
